Downtown Phoenix

The revitalization proposal injects life in the shell of an underutilized and undervalued parking garage in the hear of downtown Phoenix. The building is envisioned to transform into both a physical and intellectual journey for the community of Phoenix. The building is reduced down to a human scale and pulling the street into the hear of the building activity by introducing restaurants, shops, and gallery spaces in its most active foot traffic. The programs are then pushed it vertically to the summit, through local cultural nodes along the vertical journey. The circulation is inspired by the geology of Arizona slot canyons, and is carving a path up the exterior face of the building. Every face of the building is protected under a new skin made out of painted perforated metal to still allow for fresh air while providing shade and refuge. The vibrant colors of the skin directly reflect Phoenix’s desert mountains cape and the orthogonal urban city grid.
